Smart People May Be Wrong

Charles H. Duell, Commissioner of the U. S. Office of Patents, said in 1899, “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”.

In 1943, Thomas Watson, Chairman of IBM said, “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.”

Ken Olson, President and Founder of Digital Equipment Corporation, said in 1977, “There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home.”

As recently as 1981, Bill Gates said, “640k ought to be enough for anybody”.

A Yale University management professor said of Fred Smith’s paper proposing overnight delivery service; “the concept is interesting and well-formed, but in order to earn better than a “C”, the idea must be feasible”. Smith left the University and founded Fed-Ex.

You are a smart person. Are you always right? God is never wrong and has given us a Book that is always right.

Only of the Bible can it be said, “the law of the Lord is perfect” (Psalm 19:7) and “Your Word is truth” (John 17:17). God makes no mistakes. His Book is without errors. You can count on Him. “The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy” (Psalm 19:7).

The truthfulness of Scripture is evident by the fulfillment of prophecy. Prophecies constitute 27% of Scripture involving 73 different events. Hundreds of these have already been fulfilled. There are 17 prophecies fulfilled in the first coming of Christ. These are not general and vague, but specific, such as 700 years before, naming the tiny village (Micah 5:2) where He was to be born.

Clearly, there is no other book like the Bible. This Book merits careful attention! This is why we have a continuing strong emphasis upon the written Word of God at the Ashburn Baptist Church.

This is the Book preached from the pulpit each Sunday. This is the Volume that is studied in the classes of the Ashburn Baptist Bible Institute. Also, adult classes meeting at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday follow a twelve-year curriculum that covers every Bible book. The young people and children study the sacred Scriptures in their classes. Only at your peril do you ignore the Word of God.

“Do not let this book of the law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:8).

This is the Book that tells about the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the second Person in the Holy Trinity. He is the very Son of God, who took on human flesh in the womb of the virgin Mary, lived among men and suffered and died for our sins upon the cross. He was truly a Prophet and a Healer, but the chief reason this sinless One came was to provide full forgiveness of sin and eternal salvation for lost sinners by His death upon the cross. He, Himself, said He “came to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

There are not many roads to Heaven, for Jesus said, “I am the Way (literally road)” (John 14:6).

All who have ever gone to Heaven, all who are now going to Heaven and all who ever will go, will go through personal, saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It was the apostle, Peter, who stated “there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men, by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

It is the Bible which tells us about Jesus and tells us how to get to Heaven. The Bible is always right because it is given by God, and God is always right.
