It is the Bible plus nothing.
It is the Bible minus nothing.
It is book-by-book Bible study – no surveys – maximum life-centered application.
It is a carefully planned curriculum.
It is not dependent on some Sunday School publisher’s schedule or subject to a publisher’s slant or weakness, but rather uses the very best helps available from all sources.
Companion books are placed in sequence. For example: Genesis and Matthew, Leviticus and Hebrews, Daniel and Revelation, Job and I Peter.
Where more than one book is studied in the same quarter, the books always have a relationship. For example: I, II, and III John; Jeremiah and Lamentations; Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon; certain Minor Prophets; Judges and Ruth; II Peter and Jude; Colossians and Philemon; Ezra, Nehemiah, etc.
Within each year there is a balance between Old Testament and New Testament book studies.
Attention is given to portions of Scripture that are usually neglected, such as the Pentateuch and the Minor Prophets.
In no instance does the study of one Bible book go beyond the limits of one quarter, so that each quarter the student gets a complete unit of study.
The Pentateuchal and Gospel books are toward the beginning the curriculum, giving teachers and students a foundation on which to build as the curriculum is launched.
Certain books are deliberately placed in the summer quarter because there is some disruption of attendance due to vacations. Consequently, Psalms and Proverbs are in the summer because the lack of continuity in the books lends them to this kind of study. Mark, the easiest of the Gospels, is placed in the summer; John and Romans because they are taught in the Institute; Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon because they are better handled in this framework; I and II Chronicles because the books of Samuel and Kings are in the fall covering parallel material.
There is no curriculum available from any publisher or any other source that is enhanced by all of these features.
The plan delivers us from hobbyhorse riding and various teachers or classes going off on doctrinal binges.
The plan delivers us from people who want to experiment with this or that in our Sunday School while solid teaching of the whole Word of God is woefully neglected.
The plan spares us from the onslaughts of publishing house salesmen who are promoting their new “curricula” as the very best thing invented. Yet we can utilize the very best helps and media aids on any Bible book put out by any publishing house at any time.
This plan adapts well to the level of the teacher and the class. It can be a somewhat elementary study of the Bible book or an exceedingly deep, thorough, and rich study depending upon the competence and maturity of the teacher. Helps are available at a variety of levels.
