When you hear God’s voice, your life will never be the same.
God told Noah to build a 3-deck, 450 long boat when there was no water to be seen (Genesis 6). Noah did what he was told and his whole life was turned around.
God told Abraham to move to leave his family, his father, his country and go to a land that God would finally designate but, at the moment was unknown. Abraham’s life was uprooted and never again the same.
Moses was enjoying a quiet, comfortable life tending his father-in-law’s sheep in the desert, until a bush was burning and God’s voice spoke from the bush. Moses’ whole life is shaken up as he returns to Egypt where his life had been threatened and to the Pharaoh that he feared. Never again was Moses to experience a quiet, calm life.
Multi-millionaire Job was doing very well with his family and his vast holdings until God intervened. It was total loss. All his 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen and 500 donkeys were gone, then, his 10 grown children and finally his health. God seemingly had no regard for Job’s comfort or possessions.
God told the prophet, Hosea, (Hosea 1:2) to take a prostitute for a wife. After that, his life was nothing but a time of trouble.
The prophet Jonah was commissioned by God to go and bring a saving message to Israel’s enemies the Syrians, with the result that God would bless them, these people who hated the Jews. Jonah’s life became one crisis after another as the result of God speaking to him.
Matthew (Matthew 9:9) was called on his lucrative tax collection position to be a follower of Jesus. After that, his life became very unsettled and adventurous.
The top religious teacher in Jerusalem, Nicodemus, was told by Jesus that he needed to be “born again” (John 3). He was and life became very unsettled and risky.
Paul, the persecutor of Christians, was met by Jesus on the Damascus Road and his whole plan for the journey was altered.
If you are serious about doing God’s will, be prepared to be upset by God. Your life will be disturbed and rearranged according to His plan.
