1. What is the Bible?
2. What is Science?
“Science is knowledge gained by systematic
observation, experiment, and reasoning” (Pasteur).
3. What are the limitations of Science?
Science deals only with the
observable material world. Science has no facts about the origin of our planet,
animals or humans—no one was there to make any observations!
4. What is organic evolution?
It is the theory that ages ago lifeless
matter, acted upon by natural forces gave rise to microscopic living organisms
which very slowly developed by natural processes into all the living things on
the earth today.
5. What is theistic evolution?
It is the theory that God began and
directed the evolutionary process. Also called “progressive creationism”.
6. What is the difference between the various views?
a. The organic evolutionist does not believe in God as Creator.
b. The theistic evolutionist claims to believe in God but does not
believe the plain statements of God about creation.
c. The Biblical creationist believes in God and believes all God says
in the Bible about the origin of the world and living things.
7. Can one believe both in evolution and in the Bible?
a. Evolution speaks of progress. Scripture speaks of a retrogression
or fall (Gen. 3).
b. Evolution takes time, time, time. The total creation actually took
place in six literal days (Gen. 1 as interpreted by
8. Some say, “The Bible tells us WHO created (Gen. 1:1) but not HOW
creation was accomplished”.
It most certainly does tell us how. It is at
God’s spoken word that the material world came into existence (Gen. 1;
Hebrews 11:3). We are also told HOW Adam was created (Gen. 2:7) and HOW
Eve was created (Gen. 2:21, 22).
9. What about “prehistoric” man?
The use of the term is unscientific
and unbiblical. We have written history (the Bible) of the first human pair.
10. What about the cave men?
There are people who now live in caves.
In the past there have been people who lived in caves. It has never been proven
that all people at any given time lived in caves.
11. What about fossils?
There was no death before the creation of
Adam, in fact no death until after the fall (I Cor. 15:21;
Romans 5:12). Until
the fall both people and animals ate only herbs (Gen. 1:29, 30). No fossils can
be dated before the entrance of sin into the human race.
12. What about the very early dates that “science” gives for the universe,
our planet and the human race?
None have been proven! Many dates are pure
speculation. Some dates are arrived at by measuring the decay of radio-activity
in minerals. However it is an assumption that the rate of decay has been
1. Always note carefully in science what is a theory and what is known
fact. Science teachers frequently teach theories as though they are facts.
2. The theories of scientists are continually changing. The truth of
Scripture never changes (Matt. 24:35).
3. Never be so stupid as to give up any plain truth of Scripture for
even the most plausible theory of science.
