These three hot topics are all high on the human interest list. We all want to
know how to get more money. Everybody is interested in sex. And, as we struggle
to stay well and to keep from dying, we have a vital interest in our health.
However, the Bible is the only authentic source book on these high interest
items. Instead of getting confused by the conflicting opinions of differing
“experts”, why not go to the Scripture and get sound information and practical
MONEY The Bible is the
timeless money manual.
It gives the biographies of many millionaires, such as Abraham, Job, and David.
We are instructed to pay attention to our investments (Proverbs 27:23), given
the source of wealth (I Chronicles 29:14), and instructed to diversify our
holdings (Ecclesiastes 11:2).
The book of Proverbs has valuable information about obtaining and retaining
wealth. Twelve of Christ’s 38 parables are about money. In Matthew, Mark, and
Luke, one verse out of six deals with money.
We are told that money makes a terrible master (Matthew 6:24), but a good
servant, and instructed that we may have it if we do not love it (I Timothy
SEX In a standardless
“if-it-feels-good-do-it” society, we need to go back to Scripture. The swamps of
human information are slime pits of misinformation and have led us to sexual
disease and death. The highest sexual enjoyments are experienced by those who
follow the beneficial teachings of the Bible, which is the original sex manual.
It is the Word of God alone which gives us the true origin of sex (Genesis
1:26,27). It is God’s Word which clearly indicates sexual differentiation and
gives us sexual identity stating that a person is either “male or female”.
Entire chapters are given over to the subject of sex, marriage, and family
(Leviticus 18, Matthew 19,I Corinthians 7) and one entire Bible book, the Song
of Solomon, deals with this significant subject. A person ignores Bible truth on
sex at the peril of his own happiness and well-being.
HEALTH We no sooner
leave the cradle then we are on the road to the cemetery. We all get sick, and
we will all die (Hebrews 9:27).
Many Americans worship at the altar of health as costs soar and we seem to be
willing to pay anything just to get a couple more years of life or even a few
more days. The hospital is often the largest and most expensive building in the
community, employing the most people.
Yet, it is God who created our bodies (Genesis 2:7) and knows more about them
than any combination of medical specialists.
The formula for health is given in Scripture (Exodus 15:26) and the believer
knows that His body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (I Corinthians 6:19),
treats it accordingly, and reaps the benefits!
Those who would follow Proverbs 23:2, could save the money spent on
Weight-Watchers and observing Proverbs 20:1 could prevent cirrhosis of the
Long before the recent exercise craze, Paul told young Timothy that exercise had
some value (I Timothy 4:8).
The worries, fears, and stresses that ravage the human body can be drastically
reduced if not eliminated by those who receive the peace promised by the Lord
(Isaiah 26:3; John 14:27).
All of these issues are regularly discussed in the Bible classes and sermons at
the Ashburn Baptist Church to the rich benefit of all who attend. There is much
more, but from this sampling you can see that the questions being asked in our
time have the real answers only in the Word of God.
