Baptists are male, female, black, white, in between, Asian, Hispanic and right, mostly. They’re right because they hold the Bible to be the sole authority for doctrine and practice. And the Bible is totally right because it is from God, Who is totally right.
So, since the Bible is totally right, why is a Baptist only mostly right? This is because many or most Baptists don’t read the Bible too carefully.
If you don’t agree that Baptists are mostly right, don’t worry about it. There are not two Baptists who agree on everything!
Nevertheless, Baptists hold to the Bible and nothing else. We have no catechism. There is no Luther’s Catechism, Heidelberg Catechism, Westminster Catechism or Catholic Catechism that is the doctrinal standard for Baptists. We Baptists have the Bible only. Catechisms are written by men. The Bible is given by God (I Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21).
Baptists have no creed. We have no Augsburg Confession, Decrees of the Council of Trent, Canons of Dort, 39 Articles or Westminster Confession.
But don’t other groups believe the Bible? Of course, but others have in addition to the Bible these catechisms and creeds — all of human origin.
Baptists are Bible people. God’s Word is truth (John 17:17). Truth is reality. Welcome to the real world.
